Avionics

Pilot-focused flight deck

The most pilot-focused flight deck in the air today is in the cockpit of the Citation CJ3, powered by the Collins Pro Line 21. The cockpit features an integrated flight director/autopilot and EFIS system that puts many of the latest advances in jet avionics at the pilot’s command. The ergonomic cockpit design was inspired by extensive research in human factors engineering. Its specific purpose is to reduce pilot workload and minimize distractions.

Diagnose and maintain

Your CJ3 common center collects, stores, and displays diagnostic data, service, and fault messages with the integrated Collins Maintenance Diagnostic System (MDS). The flight department can stay informed with a listing of current faults, advanced diagnostics information for each fault, failed component, and fault history. With generous memory, the system stores up to 500 faults that may have occurred during any of the latest 100 flights. At any point, this information can be downloaded in ASCII format to a USB storage device.

To complement the MDS, the CJ3 incorporates full-time data storage through a Cessna Aircraft Recording System (AReS). The AReS records useful data during the previous 25+ flight hours in nonvolatile memory. This allows systems specialists from Citation Service to perform advanced troubleshooting and analysis.

When information matters

The CJ3 flight department will be pleased to find an integrated flight information system (IFIS) in the cockpit. Powered by the Collins IFIS-5000, the system is integrated with the flight management system (FMS) for the highest situational awareness. The line-replaceable Collins FSU-5010 File Server Unit is the heart of the CJ3’s IFIS as it has the storage, memory, and processing power to display enhanced map overlays on the MFD using high-speed Ethernet connections.

Pilots have the option of using a cursor control device to overlay data on the FMS navigation presentation such as worldwide political boundaries including state and national borders, geographical features like lakes, rivers, and oceans as well as controlled, restricted, and prohibited airspace.

The Database Loading Unit (DBU-5000) located on the pilot’s side console makes uploading a database from a laptop or USB device easy and intuitive. The IFIS Enhanced Map Overlay database is updated by subscription through Collins on a 28-day cycle. The system is scalable as well, ready to incorporate upgrades and options such as Jeppesen Electronic Charts.

Powerplant

Two, dual-channel FADEC-controlled, Williams FJ44-3A turbofan engines are installed on the CJ3. The engine is a medium-bypass, twin-spool design with five compression stages and three turbine stages. It produces 2,820 pounds (12.54 kN) of thrust at sea level, static conditions, flat-rated up to 79°F (26°C). The FADEC system also provides time-limited dispatch, diagnostics, and engine synchronization.
