Diversity

At Cessna we embrace diversity to unleash the fullest potential of all team members and assure our global competitive advantage. Cessna attracts, develops and retains a talented, diverse workforce to be the premier general aviation company.

Diversity is a Business Objective

Diversity initiatives are aligned with business objectives to achieve growth. The importance of diversity goes beyond employment equity.  Diversity is a benefit that contributes to our bottom line and our success by increasing productivity, enhancing innovation, and improving the organization’s ability to remain competitive.

Diversity Initiatives

Two important diversity initiatives at Cessna are the Diversity Team and Employee Network Groups. The Diversity Team was formed in 2005 and has representation from all functional areas. Responsibilities of the team include identifying diversity issues: making recommendations for addressing these issues, supporting the implementation of programs, serving as diversity champions, modeling effective behavior, and providing feedback to Cessna’s Senior Leadership and Textron’s Enterprise Diversity Team on the results and progress of initiatives.

Employee Network Groups are voluntary, employee-driven groups with similar experiences or interests. Networks can form around various dimensions of diversity including race, ethnicity, and gender. These groups provide support and networking opportunities such as professional growth and development, community outreach, support recruitment and retention efforts, cultural awareness activities, insights on company projects, policies and marketing practices, and provide feedback on issues to management. There are currently six Employee Network Groups.

With more than 120,000 aircraft in the field, adding nearly 1,000 a year to this number, the Propeller Product Engineering team supports the largest fleet of propeller-driven aircraft in the world. The team’s responsibilities lie in four major areas: propeller aerodynamics, mechanical design, and certification; piston and turbine aircraft avionics and propulsion upgrades; new product development and certification; and support of current manufacture and field aircraft – some of which are as old as the 1940s.
