Careers FAQ

Q: What is the employment process at Cessna Aircraft Company?
A:  Cessna Aircraft Company utilizes a multi-step employment process.  The process is designed to help identify the most qualified candidates and to match candidates with a position that best suits their individual skills and career goals.

Candidate Applies
Available jobs at Cessna Aircraft Company may be posted on our external and internal job boards simultaneously.   Candidates can apply for posted jobs by creating a profile, uploading their resume and completing any job related assessments. After completing a profile and applying for a position, candidates will be able to track status of resume submissions using the Jobs Summary tab.

Screening
Those candidates who have the experience level and skills that most closely match the requirements for a job may be contacted by a Cessna Employment Representative to further discuss their qualifications.

Manager Review
Cessna Employment Representatives present the most qualified candidates to the hiring manager for review. After a discussion of the candidates' qualifications, the hiring manager and Employment Representative make a decision on the candidates to be interviewed for the position.

Interview
Candidates selected for an interview will be contacted by a Cessna Employment Representative.

Final Candidate Evaluation
Cessna Employment Representatives conduct post interview meetings with hiring managers and appropriate interviewers to discuss candidate evaluations and to make a final hiring decision.

Offer
Once a candidate has been selected for a position, the Cessna Employment Representative will call the candidate and present the offer details verbally. A formal offer letter may follow via postal or electronic mail as well. Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a physical, drug screen and background check.

Hire
When a candidate accepts a position, other candidates who applied to the position will be notified via disqualification in the online system and/or a formal letter sent via the postal service or e-mail.

Q: I am interested in applying for a job at Cessna Aircraft Company. What do I need to do?
A: You must create a profile on the web site. Cessna Aircraft Company no longer accepts paper resumes via fax, email or in person.

Q: Am I required to create a profile or can I just simply submit my resume online?
A:  To apply for a job on our site, you do need to create a profile.  This will allow you to submit your resume to posted positions of interest to you, check the status of resume submissions,  and complete any position assessments.

Q: Does it help to call the Cessna Employment Office to check on my resume?
A:  No. Once your resume has been submitted, it resides in an electronic database and can be accessed by Employment Representatives conducting key word searches.  We do, however, recommend that you submit your resume directly to posted positions of interest to you.

Q: How long is my resume and profile kept active?
A:  12 months

Q:  If I am interested in more than one position with Cessna, how do I apply?
A:
You may submit your resume directly to all posted positions of interest to you.

Q: I already have a profile with Cessna, but I need to change some of my contact information. How do I do this?
A:
The system allows you to make changes to your profile at will.  To do this, log into your profile and make the desired changes.

Q:  My profile indicates that I have been disqualified or not selected for a position, how can I find out more information?
A:
Our system uses a status of “Not Selected”  or "Disqualified" to identify candidates not selected for interviews. In most cases, this indicates that the Employment Representative has identified a candidate(s) with a background more closely in line with the requirements of the position.   In some cases, depending on the timing of your application, it may also be possible that a final candidate has already been identified, the position has just been filled, or the position may have been cancelled. While we’d like to be able to provide specific feedback for each applicant, with the volume of resumes we receive, it is virtually impossible to provide individual reasons for disqualification. We use a variety of objective search and evaluation methods that allow us to quickly screen candidates in order to identify those who are most qualified for a particular job.

Q:  When I apply for a position, the system asks me to complete an assessment. Is this required? How long does this take?
A:  The assessments serve as an objective means of further qualifying candidates for jobs without having to read through every resume in the system. It is recommended that you take the assessments at the time you are applying for the job so that the recruiter has access to this data. Typically there are no more than 10 true/false questions per job. The questions should take only a few minutes to complete. On occasion, an Employment Representative may use more of a text based question which may require additional time. You do have the ability to select “complete assessment at a later time” when the questions come up. If you do, the assessments will be listed on the “my jobs” section of your profile under the “Assessments You Need to Take” section.

Q: Can I add more than just my resume to my profile, such as a cover letter and/or a list of references?
A: You can add up to five attachments to your profile. To do so, go to your profile, select “edit” and browse for your document in the “resume” section of your profile. After you select it, you’ll need to give it a name – “Cover Letter," “List of References," etc. and SAVE your profile.

Q: What is the other information that is listed on the “my jobs” section of my profile?
A:
The “my jobs” section of your profile contains the following information: Job Submittal History – a list of all jobs you have applied for and your status in that process; Saved Searches – a list of any search agents that you have set up in the system; Equal Employment Opportunity Information – voluntary information that assists the company with it’s governmental reporting (once this confidential information is provided, it will no longer display and the data will reside only on your view of your profile. Employment Representatives do not have access to this data); Assessments You Need to Take – a list of requested assessments that were either postponed during the application stage or were added after you applied for the position; Forms Needed – a list of forms required at the appropriate time in the process, such as the Employment Application.

Q: I accidentally removed myself from a position to which I applied and it won’t let me re-apply, what can I do?
A:
Candidates do have the ability to remove themselves from consideration for any positions. If you do this accidentally, please e-mail us at cessnajobs.com and let us know what happened.   It is likely we will be able to reinstate your resume submission.

Q: How long are jobs posted on the job board? What does the job status mean on the job posting?
A:
There is no minimum amount of time that a job will be posted.   Postings may change daily. Candidates can see their individual status on the “my jobs” page of their profile. For additional information on resume status, please see CESSNA EMPLOYMENT PROCESS.

Q:  Will the resume I submit be considered by multiple Textron businesses?
A:
Your resume may be considered for any position with which your background aligns across all of our businesses.  We do still recommend that you apply specifically for the positions in which you are interested.

Q: How often should I return to update my profile?
A:
You should update your profile as often as necessary to keep it current. Our recommendation is to update your profile anytime a major piece of data changes such as a new name, address, phone or e-mail change, change in jobs, completion of degree, certifications newly obtained, new major achievements/accomplishments, completion of specialized training, etc.

Q:  Who do I contact with other employment related questions?
A:
You may contact us via email at cessnajobs@cessna.textron.com.
